Privacy Policy
Effective 20 September 2026
The short version
Snagbox has no user accounts, no servers of ours that store your library, and no analytics or advertising software of any kind. What you save lives on your device. If you switch on iCloud sync, it is also stored in your own private iCloud account, which we cannot read.
We do not collect, sell, rent or share your personal data. We cannot see the links, notes, photos, files or any other content you save.
Who we are
Snagbox is published by Snagbox. For anything relating to this policy, write to contact@mrb-lab.com. Where data protection law applies to us, Snagbox is the data controller for the limited processing described below.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. The app has no sign-up, no login, no profile, and no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or attribution SDK. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”, and its privacy manifest declares no collected data types and no tracking domains.
This website is a set of static pages. It does not set advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not ask you for personal information. If we later add privacy-respecting traffic measurement, we will say so here before it goes live.
Data on your device
Everything you save — links, notes, checklists, photos, videos, PDFs, audio and other files, along with their titles, tags, categories and dates — is stored in the app’s own container on your device. So is the material the app derives from them:
- Extracted text. The app reads text out of your PDFs and recognises text in your images so that search can find it. This runs entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device frameworks, and the result is stored only on your device.
- Thumbnails and previews generated from your own items.
- A search index, including entries the app adds to Spotlight so that your items are findable from the iOS search screen. Spotlight indexes stay on your device and follow Apple’s handling of that index.
- Your settings, such as the accent colour, language, sort order and whether sync and App Lock are on.
Photos and videos captured inside Snagbox are saved to the app only. They are not written to your photo library unless you export them yourself.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on, either during onboarding or in Settings. When it is on, your library is stored in the private database of your own iCloud account and syncs to your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
That data is held by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy and counts against your iCloud storage. We have no access to it: there is no administrative console, no server of ours in the path, and no copy held by us. Turning sync off stops future syncing; removing the data already in iCloud is done by deleting the items in the app or removing the app’s iCloud data from iOS Settings.
When the app uses the network
Snagbox works offline. It makes outgoing connections only in these cases, and only with what is needed for the task:
- Link previews. When you save a link, the app requests that web address to fetch its title, description and image. The request goes to the site you saved, and that site will see it like any other visit, including your IP address. You can restrict this to Wi-Fi in Settings.
- iCloud sync, when you have enabled it, to Apple’s servers.
- Purchases, as described below.
The app does not send your library, your searches, your notes or any usage information to us or to anyone else.
Purchases
Snagbox Pro is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card details, and we do not receive your name, email address or billing address.
To check whether your purchase is active across your devices, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous identifier for your installation together with Apple’s receipt and subscription status, so that it can tell the app whether Pro is unlocked. It does not receive anything you have saved. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy and Apple’s for how each of them handles that information.
Permissions you may be asked for
- Camera and microphone — only when you take a photo or video, or scan a document, inside the app. The result is stored in Snagbox.
- Photos — only for the items you pick when importing. The app does not read your library in the background.
- Face ID / Touch ID — only if you switch on App Lock. Biometric matching is performed by iOS; the app receives a yes or no and never sees your biometric data.
- Location — Snagbox never asks for it. Photos you import may carry location data in their own metadata; that stays inside your copy of the file, and the app strips it from images it downsizes.
Children
Snagbox is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Since the app collects no personal data at all, there is nothing for us to delete on request; parents who want a child’s library removed can delete the app or use Delete All Data in Settings.
Retention and deletion
We hold no copy of your data, so there is nothing for us to retain. Within the app:
- Deleted items move to Recently Deleted and are removed permanently after 30 days, or immediately if you empty it yourself.
- Settings › Delete All Data erases every item and file the app holds on the device.
- Deleting the app removes its on-device container. If sync was on, the iCloud copy is removed through iOS Settings › Apple Account › iCloud.
Your rights
Laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal data that a company holds about you. Because we hold none, those requests are answered by the app itself: your data is already in your hands, Settings › Export writes your whole library to a zip file containing library.json and every attachment, and deletion works as described above. We have never sold or shared personal information, and we do not profile you or make automated decisions about you. If you believe we hold data about you regardless, write to contact@mrb-lab.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Security
Your library is protected by the encryption iOS applies to app data on a device with a passcode. You can add App Lock, which requires Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode to open the app and hides its contents in the App Switcher. Exported zip files are not encrypted, so store them somewhere you trust. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new effective date. Material changes — anything that would alter what leaves your device — will also be announced in the app’s release notes before they take effect.
